HEALTH & SAFETY

Health

In terms of health, there are no compulsory vaccinations or dietary recommendations for travel to Spain. Medicines can be purchased at any pharmacy, although most of them are subject to medical prescription.

As for medical assistance, the Spanish National Health System has a wide network of Primary Care centers, as well as emergency services in hospitals and certain Health Centers.

If you come from a member country of the European Union, you will have free health services and it is advisable to carry the European Health Insurance Card. You can find out more about the card here.

If you are from a country outside the European Union, you will be entitled to medical care, although you may have to pay the cost of the service or claim reimbursement from your health insurance. We recommend that you consult with a medical or travel insurance provider who can cover your stay in Madrid.
